coffee
Did you know historians believe that Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee? The word coffee is derived from Kaffa, Ethiopia where the first coffee trees originated. According to Ethiopian legend, a goat herder noticed that his herd were frisky after consuming the beans. He tried them and liked them and noticed that they helped him stay alert while tending his goats. Word traveled among spice traders and soon coffee became popular in the Middle East and Europe. It isn't known for sure who first tried the beans as a drink, but many believe it to have been an Ethiopian.
By the 6th century Ethiopians were growing coffee. It soon became Ethiopia's most important crop and still is today.
Do you love a good cup of coffee? Are you like me and your day hasn't officially started until you get some joe flowing through your veins? If so, try the coffee from Gobena. The couple that started Gobena adopted a beautiful baby girl from Ethiopia and 100% of the profits benefit orphans through various charity programs.
Click here find out more and purchase some for yourself. You will not be disappointed, it is good stuff!!! :)

Yes!! We LOVE coffee! Can't wait to check out that site!
Our girls are 3 and 6. The oldest will be 7 before we meet her.
It's quite fitting for ya'll to be getting W & B from the birthplace of coffee! This adoption was meant to be, huh?! :)
Cool, will have to get some for MP! He is a coffee aficiando (or so he thinks! I'll check it out!
Kaldi, the goat herder from Ethiopia chewed the first bean
I have to say I don't like coffee, but I love all things from Ethiopia ... I am reading about how the Ark of the Covenant was said to be brought to Ethiopia ...
Love ya Sis ... I got your surprise today and Suz will be mailing it off to you ... Should go fab w/ your new van ... lol
Way to endorse the coffee!!! We just finally brewed ours this morning. I am not much of a straight up coffee drinker though, so I didn't try it. Josh loved it though!
Too bad we hate coffee -- we are adopting a little girl from Ethiopia, what will I do when I don't like coffee? I thought maybe I should try drinking some now so I can gulp it down at the coffee ceremony without puking or making a horrible face, but I don't think it will happen... Just found your blog and can't wait to read more
I love coffee and I enjoyed it while we were in Ethiopia. I brought one full suitcase full of ethiopian coffee back home with me.

Emily, thankyou for spreading the word....the more coffee we sell the more we can help. As far as the proceds go we plan on helping out a new group home that is being put together in Addis Ethiopia right now. Thanks again

this is so great! we've been supporting another Organic Fair Trade coffee supplier that supports orphans, as well - www.saintscoffee.com. I love seeing the variety and creativity of people giving back through businesses - and you are right...there is no comparison to such fresh quality and taste! I am blessed to be able to serve products like this at our ladies' Bible studies with a sign that tells them what they're drinking. It would cost me the same or more to buy a 'similarly labeled' coffee from my local Whole Foods Market, but it would still be inferior in quality and I wouldn't be feeding an orphan for a month! If anyone starts making bluejeans for a cause, please let me know because we certainly go through those at my house :-)
It's always good to hear of organizations helping out orphans. However, Gobena does give 100% of the proceeds to orphan care, whereas Saints coffee's website says they give almost 1/3 of their profits.
Gobena is very new, (less than 1 month old) and plans to present more specifics (including pictures) of the children that are being helped by the Gobena faithful!
Oooh BABY, yes! Loooove coffee! Try Kaldi Coffee in ET. It's like Starbucks. :)
Yes, Kaldi Coffee in Ethiopia is awesome! Do not leave Ethiopia without trying it. It's like Starbucks, except better, and costs about $0.75 for a caramel macchiato.
Does it only come in beans? :) Can I buy some to hide in your freezer for when I stay over and you guys are out?? :)
Love you guys...we need to look for some special dresses :0)
Try TO.MO.CA Cafe when you go to E. We bought 3lbs. while there and it has been great. Wish I had bought a lot more.
Found you through Amy B. Your family is beautiful. Best wishes on the adoption.
A little of our adoption story:

LOVE AND MISS YOU
Ohhh and the coffee is to dye for over there SOO GOOD! I use to work at Starbucks and so I was a coffee nerd and randomly enough Ethiopian coffee was ALWAYS my favorite....
God bless them if they did make the first coffee! I hear you live in Dallas. So do we. We should meet up some time.
