charlie

Meet the newest member of the Alexander team----Charlie!! He is an 8 week old Malti-poo puppy. He is precious and no, we aren't crazy. I have one sister-in-law that was ready to sign us up for therapy and one that felt a need to remind me that we are in fact in the process of an international adoption! I love them both dearly and am thankful that they feel freedom to express themselves so openly:)

The story of how Charlie became an Alexander involves an eight year old girl and her daddy......a daddy that wanted his daughter to continue with dance, and then a classic parenting strategy--- bribery!! For those that don't know- we already have two large dogs. Tibbi, an almost 10 year old Vizsla and an 8 month old Vizsla/Weimeraner mix, Mo. We won't be adding anymore pets to our house--just kids:)

We are still waiting on our CIS approval. Charlie sure is cute and makes the waiting somewhat easier. The picture below is one happy daughter that we all can't wait to see in her dance recital.

This is Mocha- our Christmas morning surprise puppy.

Mo is so unbelievably patient with Charlie. This is Charlie eating Mo's food.

This is Tibbi. He is old and very happy Mo has a new friend!

celebrate with others

Waiting is hard, but it sure is fun to celebrate with others! Check out a fellow Texan in Ethiopia right now picking up her sweet baby girl. Click here

Two other blogs that I follow received their CIS approval yesterday! This is the paper that we are waiting to arrive. It is the final piece of paper (from the government stating that we can bring two orphans to the states) that we need to officially be put on the referral list!!

Pray it comes quickly:)

mountain of god

One of my all time favorite songs is "Mountain of God" by Third Day. I have always been a big fan of Mac Powell's voice and the music of Third Day. This particular song is special- if you haven't heard it, click on the you tube version below. Everytime that I listen to this song, it puts things in perspective for me.

I know the road of international adoption has mountains and valleys, and remembering Who is in control-- makes it that much easier!

a long way gone: memoirs of a boy soldier

If you haven't read this book- I highly recommend it. It isn't easy to read, but necessary for us to realize that these things are still happening in Africa. Watch this clip from the writer of the book. It is an absolute miracle!

faith

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

..for we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7

..that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:5b

baseball

Baseball, we love baseball.......we have been playing ALOT of baseball lately!! They are doing great, but we are definitely tired. Hill is in the middle of a World Series and Wick is playing in the Optimist area championship tournament-- we typically fly from one game to another! The girls are single-handedly keeping the concession stands in business:)

It finally feels like a real Texas summer and that means we are HOT. Usually the boys (and parents) are acclimated to the heat by July but because of all the rain we have had-- they are definitely hot out there.

I was really proud of them yesterday- they played a game of wholehearted baseball:)

Well, I'm off--- to the ballpark!!

fretting

"Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil." Psalm 37:8b

I was reading My Utmost for His Highest yesterday and was really convicted! The title was "One of God's Great Don'ts". Ok, that gets your attention right off the bat. I knew that the Lord would work in our lives through the adoption and I knew that waiting would be hard, but the way that Oswald Chambers crafted his words really made me think.

It sounds so easy to talk about "resting in the Lord" and "waiting patiently for Him" until the nest is upset- until we live, as so many are doing, in tumult and anquish, is it possible then to rest in the Lord? If this "don't" does not work there, it will work nowhere. This "don't" must work in days of perplexity as well as in days of peace, or it will never work. .....Resting in the Lord does not depend on external circumstances at all, but on your relationship to God Himself.
Fussing always ends in sin. We imagine that a little anxiety and worry are an indication of how really wise we are; it is much more an indication of how really wicked we are. Fretting springs from a determination to get our own way.

Some days I will read a post on a blog or yahoo group and so and so are talking about this agency or that.....they got their referral in record time, their CIS clearance came in two weeks, etc. and then I start to fret! Did we go with the right agency, did we pick the right homestudy agency, etc?? We prayed over every aspect of this adoption- we felt so confident in our decision with WHFC and our SW and still do but satan is at work and loves to see me fret.
So today, I will not fret! I will trust in the sovereign Lord that He alone knows where my kids are and when they will join our family.

great book!

This is one amazing book. It literally changed me! I don't say that about many things (certainly books). Truth be told- I am not a huge reader, doesn't go with the whole homeschooling image, I know!! I just haven't had much time to read honestly- having 4 kids in 5 years and then trying to meet their needs, etc. didn't allow much time for reading. Another disclaimer- I did somehow find time to watch every episode of 24, Greys Anatomy and American Idol!! Ok- I am really throwing the homeschooling thing under the bus here, but I do LOVE to read a good book when given the opportunity--like when my hubby and I go away for some alone time to some place sunny and free of kiddos:)
I highly recommend this book-- it will definitely make you think about your life and how you are living it!!
Happy reading. Oh and be ready for another good cry!!

blog friends

One of the blessings in the whole adoption process and reality that an entire blog world exists, is the new people that the Lord has led us to!! He greatly used others blog's to educate us and draw our hearts toward Ethiopia. I love finding a new one and going to the beginning of their story and read how it unfolds. Many are at the same stage that we are and some are now home, but each are unique and special. Some make me laugh really hard click here and others greatly encourage me by their faith in Jesus.

If you have extra time (and who doesn't??) click on some of the adoption blogs in the sidebar to discover for yourself more miracles of adoption!!
