more on strength
Have you ever sat in a church service and felt like the sermon was directed right at you? This has happened to me several times and yesterday was one of those times. ( I think this is better than the times of self-righteousness when I sit there thinking "oh, if only so and so were here to hear this!" ) Just keeping it real! :)
Pastor Fair was talking about giving of yourself- your time, talents, resources, etc. He was saying that we must be content in our circumstances to really give sacrificially of all these things and he used Paul as an example from Philippians 4:10-13.
Have you ever heard Phil 4:13 used by a great athlete to explain a new feat? He said that the verse in context is actually the apostle Paul saying that he can endure prison and all the other hardships that have come into his life because of Christ- that it is Christ indwelling in Him, Christ ordaining his circumstances, the knowledge that Christ works all things for our good and His glory- that he can say "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
This so resonated with me. In my moments of looking to the world and feeling sorry for myself that my life is now a "new normal"- I am not content, operating out of my flesh, and thereby incapable of giving anything.
I know that He has called our family to this new normal, not to punish us, not to stretch us too thin, and not to break us. He has called us to this glorious new journey because He loves us, because He is strengthening us and because He does indeed works all things for good to those who love Him. He sees the big picture and all I see is this very moment!
Prayerfully we will be more like Paul, and offer our bodies as living sacrifices to the One that knew I was to be Abey's mom before the foundation of the world. He loves me that much! He set me apart, my family apart, my friends apart and is graciously allowing us to witness the miracle in Abe.
May you experience the gift of knowing that you can do ALL things through Christ.

results

People tend to think their circumstances determine the quality of their lives. So they pour their energy into trying to control those situations. They feel happy when things are going well, and sad or frustrated when things don't turn out as they hoped. They rarely question this correlation between circumstances and feelings. Yet it is possible to be content in any and every situation.
Put more energy into trusting Me and enjoying My Presence. Don't let your well-being depend on your circumstances. Instead, connect your joy to My precious promises:
I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will meet all your needs according to My glorious riches. Nothing in all creation will be able to separate you from My love.
I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things thorough Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:12-13
Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you. Genesis 28:15
And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor present things nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38:39
This is the Jesus Calling (Sarah Young) devotional that I read moments before the pediatric neurologist called to give us the results to Abe's MRI. The line about being sad or frustrated when things don't turn out as they hoped was like a whisper from the Lord that the results might not be clear as we had so prayed.
The results were definitely not what we had hoped, but they were exactly as the Lord intended. He formed Abe's inward parts; you knitted Abe together in his mother's womb. I praise you, for Abe is fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw Abe's unformed substance; in your book were written, every day of them, the days that were formed for Abe, when as yet there were none of them.
Oh how these words from Psalm 139 make me cry out to the Lord this a.m and then rest in His grace. It is believed that Abe suffered several strokes in his birthmothers womb and that has resulted in brain injury.
While I thought this blog was started as just an adoption blog, I invite you join us on this new journey the Lord has called us to. We are indeed clinging to His truth this morning. My sister in law, Melissa, said that we all have a front row seat to watch the Lord be glorified through this amazing little gift named Abe!

blessings

This was one of my favorite photos of Abe that we received while we were waiting for him! It just made me happy.
Today we were so blessed by a precious 15 year old! We have been friends with her family for years and they have been so supportive during the entire adoption process. Her mom was with me the day that we lost our referral, they rejoiced with us over the referral of Abe and they greeted us at the airport upon our return to Texas.
Her little brothers are in science with my kids and she brought us the most amazing gift today after class. I wept at the labor of love and absolute beauty! This was her first portrait........Moody told her we may sell it for millions when she is uber-famous. Can you believe how talented she is? What a treasure.
She signed the bottom left corner with her name and God.

final slideshows

Here are the final two slideshows! Kristin is so amazing and has such a gift. We were so blessed to have her with us each step of the way.
We all delight in Abe. He is such a bright light in our family! We also all miss Ethiopia. As we watched the final two slideshows, the kids all said how much they want to go back- we totally agree. A huge hole in our hearts can only be filled with the people of Ethiopia. Lord willing, He will allow us to return sooner than later.
Enjoy! To God be the Glory!

cutie
I finally feel like I am coming out of the fog.......I am still tired and it doesn't help that little man still has his days and nights a little confused! We are working on it and enjoying him so much. The kids are such great helpers, often competing for his attention.
We are blessed beyond measure! I'm still processing the trip and hope to start writing about it soon. My heart remains with the precious children that captured it at KVI. I long to return there. What a gift to spend so much time with the staff and children there.
Many thanks again for following along. We prayed that the perfect images would be photographed, that others would feel they were there, and that He would draw people to Himself and therefore take seriously the command to care for the orphans of the world. We are completely in awe of Him and how He used the gifts He gave Kristin to capture this trip. We happen to be in the frames, but it really is just a beautiful picture of adoption-- His story!

home

We are back. We are tired. We are in love.
So much to share about our trip.........it was amazing and heart-breaking.
Thank you so much for the love, support and prayers. They carried us through.
Hoping to have the videos tweaked a bit and on the blog soon! :) If you would like to view the slideshows, send me an email or a comment and I will forward you the links to view all of them (that we have so far!)
I left a huge piece of my heart at KVI, and I can't wait to return and see the kiddos that fill these shoes! I have so much to say about the staff, ministry and children of Kingdom Vision International. :)

Is it still day 1?

They did amazing, better than the adults for sure. :)

Check out the steam around the headlights, its only like 112 degrees here!

We are here in Dubai, well at least all 10 people, 15 carry-ons and 13 bags! Yes, you can do the math -- we are missing 7 of our bags. Kristin has no clothes, Abe has nothing and we are missing several of our humanitarian aid bags. Please pray that the airlines would find them and get them to us tomorrow. :)
The kids were great on the 15 hour flight, rockstars actually! We are exhausted, but happy to be well on our way to Abe. We will spend the day in Dubai tomorrow and head to Ethiopia on Sunday.
We are encouraged by each of you! Thanks again for partnering in this adventure with us.

Team Ethiopia

We love the Hausam family! Look what we got in the mail today-- thank you for the thoughtful gift. We will wear them with pride. :)
We are packing like crazy. Trying to get a family of 6 ready for a trip to Ethiopia, and gathering as much humanitarian aid as possible, is work--- but ohhhhh so worth it! :)
Abe, we are coming little man.

2 weeks
The blog union was amazing! It was incredible to look around and see many little Ethiopian beauties everywhere. I loved meeting new people and hanging out with friends. What a joy. The weekend went by really quickly and now we are back home and have about 2 weeks to pull everything together!!
Here are a few pics from lovely California. (I don't have many on my camera and am waiting to get pics from others) The kids are seriously questioning why we live in Texas as it was 107 when we got off the plane. :)
Pam, thank you for being an amazingly gracious hostess to our crew!! It felt like home in many ways being with your crew. :)

a new chain

Remember the chain game? Well, that one didn't turn out as planned........but Avery had the best idea today. She made a new chain to countdown the days until we head out the door for Ethiopia. We leave on August 21st. Apparently with all of the cases being pushed through before the courts close has created a little backlog at the Embassy. So instead of traveling 3 weeks after a successful court date, we leave 4 weeks post court. We will spend 2 days in Dubai and then go get Abe!! We will return on Labor Day (Sept. 1st) We can't wait!!

7 days

One week. In 7 days we have our court date. In 7 days baby A could legally become an Alexander.
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him." Psalm 37: 4-7a

do not worry about tomorrow!
Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34
"Do not worry about tomorrow! This is not a suggestion, but a command. I divided time into days and nights, so that you would have manageable portions of life to handle. My grace is sufficient for you, but its sufficiency is for only one day at a time. When you worry about the future, you heap day upon day of troubles onto your flimsy frame. You stagger under this heavy load, which I never intended you to carry.
Throw off this oppressive burden with one quick thrust of trust. Anxious thoughts meander about and crisscross in your brain, but trusting Me brings you directly into My Presence. As you thus affirm your faith, shakles of worry fall off instantly. Enjoy My Presence continually by trusting Me at all times." (from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young)

I was convicted today of trying to figure out all the details- when we will travel, who will travel with us, where we will stay, what route we will take to get there, and this entry put my perspective back in line. I know that at the perfectly appointed time, we will pass court, travel and finally be united as a family. We are prayerful that we will pass court the first time on the 24th!!
In another example of God's providence, I got another picture of A yesterday. He was being fed a bottle by my sweet friend Fifi. I met Fifi in D.C this past December. You can read about meeting Fifi here.
Fifi just arrived in Ethiopia to visit her children and made a special trip to go meet, feed and love our sweet babe! How great is that? Thank you Lord for this sweet gift.
