barefoot birthday

We certainly had fun with our barefoot day in support of TOMS shoes and their efforts to bring awareness to the fact that:
Shoes are a simple answer to obstacles many face everyday:

* Fact #1: In developing nations, children walk for miles to food, clean water and medical help.
* Fact #2: Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.
* Fact #3: Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.
* Fact #4: In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
* Fact #5: Podoconiosis is 100% preventable by wearing shoes.

Driving around today
the girls and I at the grocery store
grabbing Abe some diapers

stopping by Teesie's Attic to get some more TOMS- they are the best!! Stop by the Highlands to check them out if you are in the area!!!

Not sure this is exactly what the "going barefoot" for a day was meant to look like, but it is my dear Avery's 10th birthday and we celebrated by getting our toes done!!  Hey, we were barefoot alright! :)

Ave, I can't believe how quickly you have grown.  You are an incredible gift to your father and myself- your tender spirit and willingness to help out here amaze me.  You are wise beyond your years and your baby brother is blessed to have his sissy that loves him so much.  We are most thankful for your tender heart for Jesus!  We love you sweet girl.

I found you through Gayla's site. I'm currently here in Kenya (africawithsohailah.blogspot.com) and you are so right about barefeet - jiggers are a HUGE problem here. They did a Jigger Digger Day in November and provided shoes for over 100 children that live in a slum area they have a Feeding/Education program in.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AVERY!
We went barefoot for some of the day. It's harder than I thought! I actually went to Teesie's Attic today to try on some TOMS, but they didn't have the color I wanted. They are the COMFIEST shoes, though.
