What difference do it make?
I just finished reading the new book by Ron Hall, Denver Moore and Lynn Vincent, and I sit here and type with tears in my eyes. I wrote about Same Kind of Different as Me on July 2nd, 2007- only a few months after starting our adoption journey. I told many people that the Lord used that book to change me, to stir in my heart a desire for MORE, I just didn't know what that "more" was at the time.
The subtitle of the book is "Stories of Hope and Healing" and contains about a dozen individual stories, many details about Ron and Denver's journey together since the book, along with greater details into their lives before they met. It is so well written and does a beautiful job of showing the difference that one life can make. Deborah ACTED on what she felt called by the Lord to do and set off a chain of events that ultimately "God used our experiences to change people's hearts toward the homeless across the country and around the world."
The Lord, in His providence, allowed Abe's story to be told in this new book. I first heard about the new book from my dear friend Mary Lynn, who had heard about it from another friend, Mandy Elmore. I knew immediately if asked, we would love to be involved with this project! We ended up doing several telephone interviews over the course of a few weeks and are so pleased with the words and details used to convey the Lord's work in our lives. We pray that He would be glorified and honored as people read our story, and that others would be called to the command to care for the least of these.
33And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' 37Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' 40And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. Matthew 25:33-40
I won't go into too many details as I don't want to ruin any of the book, but I love Denver and his many quotes. He justs cuts to the chase and gets to the heart of the matter. He asks Ron one day, "Mr. Ron, all these white folks be invitin us to their Bible studies. How come none of 'em's invitin us to their Bible doins?" OUCH!
He then goes on to say, "Since I been visitin a lotta churches, I hear people talkin 'bout how after readin our story, they felt "led" to help the homeless, to come alongside the down and out. But when it comes to helpin people that ain't got much, God didn't leave no room for feelin led........what you gon' do when you get to heaven and you ain't done none 'a that? Stand in front a' God and tell Him, "I didn't feel led?" "
I know that it can seem overwhelming. 147 million orphans, too many homeless in your city and what difference can one person make? Read this book, you will be blessed. Do it for Abe, do it for yourself, you will be happy you did. :)

Hi Emily! This post was perfect for my day. We have started an ET adoption for a sibling group and everything that can go wrong-is-yet the Lord continues to bring things everyday to keep us going on this journey. I loved "Same kinda different as me" so I will look for this new book. So glad you will be able to share your familys story with many more people.
Blessings to you-
I loved "Same Kinda Different as Me". I was so touched by Deborah's faithfulness and determination!

emily, between reading your blog and Melissa's, I feel like I am part of the family....kinda. Well, we have been in the midst of our adoption saga for over a year and some days I feel like I must have misunderstood God's leading...thank you for encouraging me more than you know. I have shed tears over and for Abe. My girls wept over the video when your family went to get him. I also blogged about the book and have looked forward to the next...SURPRISE...I did not know I would again feel connected to the Alexanders!
Sounds like a great book, thanks for sharing your heart!

Going to get it tomorrow. Cannot wait!
I loved their first book. Yes, incredibly challenging. What a privilege for your family to be a part of this one. Awesome that God orchestrated this. God just keeps us on our toes on the journey, but it is ALWAYS an adventure if we surrender to His control.
Blessings to you!
This is so cool, Emily. Something weird: I just saw this post yesterday for the first time. Today, I was at a Friends of the Library Used Booksale in Portland and found the book (Same Kind of Different) on my way out, like it was just sitting there waiting for me to pick it up.
I call this a breadcrumb. Look forward to reading it.
