when will abey grow up?

Still processing the massive amounts of information we heard at Idea Camp!  It was extremely challenging, inspiring and humbling to be there.  So many people with such passion for changing the plight of the 147 million orphans in the world.  As I process, I will share.  For now, here is a story that happened today.

Eyasu has never asked any questions about Abe, until today.  He always has referred to him as a baby. "Abey can't eat that, he is a baby!" and so on..... Abe has always been a baby to Eyasu and I guess it simply has never occured to him that Abe is a mere 15 months younger than he is..........so today, seemingly out of nowhere, Eyasu asked me when Abe was going to "grow up."

I asked him what he meant by "grow up".  He said, you know learn to walk and talk.  My heart hurt a little.

We had a precious conversation about how God made Abey's brain special.  How he can't walk and talk YET like most 3 year olds.  His next question, "did God make my brain special too?"  Oh sweet boy, he sure did, but not is the same way that Abe's brain is special.

I further explained to him that we are faithfully praying for healing, that we trust he will one day indeed walk and talk.............to that he said, "he will talk mommy, he will talk."

The things to learn from a 4 year old.  Thank you little man.

We have a little girl we just brought home from China just like your sweet Abe, and with the same AMAZING smile. We are so blessed to be called to our little sweet Celia and the Lord has taught us so many things through our baby girl. How blessed we all are to know that GOD writes their life story and not Drs.

That's why kids are so amazing... they have so much faith, love and confidence. Our kids never doubt what Noah will accomplish, and they love and support him unconditionally.
Your family is beautiful and Abe is so surrounded by love that I have no doubt that he will reach his very fullest potential on Earth with you. :)

Our son is 3 years old too. I think our kids are just beginning to realize that Jacob is no longer a baby. I love to watch them interact with him and help him to play.

I just found your blog through a link from another blog. We also have a daughter from Ethiopia. Her name is Ruby and she turns 3 in May. She came in Sept of 2008. She also has neurological struggles and a seizure disorder so we are dealing with some of the same realities as you. Your blog has inspired me and it feels good to know there are others out there going through similar things. Ruby is such a blessing as I am sure Abe is. Thanks for your blog; I will keep reading :)

Sweet, sweet boys. They are always going to love each other! You are blessed with such a wonderful family!

Loved getting to see you too last weekend! So much to process, right? I don't know what I was expecting...but I wasn't emotionally prepared for all I heard. Love to see how God is moving in this world and have such a desire to do MORE.

When we began our adoption journey for kiddo #3, HG, I had a conversation with my oldest (HV). I explained to her that HG's brain didn't work exactly like her brain. HV looked at me and said, "Well, Momma. It doesn't matter if her brain works or not. She still deserves a family! And, we can be that family for her." Out of the mouths of babes for sure.
