calling all prayer warriors

We knew that our precious baby was developmentally delayed by several months when we brought him home.  We have assumed (also talked to several Drs.) that it would all resolve itself and he would catch up quickly.  He has grown so much and we are so proud of the strides that he has made.  He is working so hard.

Tuesday it became apparent that we may need to seek some further medical advice.  We would covet your prayers right now.  We are so privileged to parent him, and rest in that before the foundation of the world, the Lord chose us to be Abe's family. We don't doubt international adoption, our agency, his orphanage- we just are dealing with the possible reality that the road may look different from the one we have thought.  Isn't that true of all of life though?

We are waiting to receive an appointment with a Pediatric Neurologist. I find it interesting that we are once again waiting.  Silly me thought the waiting was only for the adoption process. :)  I know that this is where the Lord wants us, fully dependent on Him and Him alone.  He is in physical therapy and we will continue that for sure.  My heart aches, but I'm filled with the goodness of a Savior that loves Abe more than I can ever imagine!  I know that the power of prayer is a powerful tool. Please pray that Abe will be fully healed, that he will make remarkable gains in his development and nothing is found at the neurologist!  We rest in Him and His grace for all our needs today.....and everyday!

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."  Isaiah 55:8-9

"Oh Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me." Psalm 30:2

But Jesus hearing this answered him, "Do not fear, only believe, and she will be well." Luke 8:50

So I think this is called "delurking".... but I've been following your journey ever since my sister (Lindsey Wheeler) told me about your blog. I have loved reading about your family, even though y'all are strangers to me! I believe y'all live in the Dallas area (my husband and I do too), and since I'm unemployed (that can be read about on my blog).... I would love to help if you ever need any babysitting. I would love to meet you and your family and help out in any way that I can!

I will be praying for precious Abe and for his complete healing. I also will pray for wisdom for the doctors as they determine if there are any problems! And naturally....I'll be praying for y'all as you deal with something that's very difficult!

I'm "delurking" myself. I'm not even sure how I came across your blog. I am a minister's wife, I used to live in Fort Worth, and I graduated from Texas Tech. We have dealt with a similar situation in our adopted son, who is now absolutely perfect. If you would like to talk more, please feel free to e-mail me: abailey423@yahoo.com. In the meantime, I'm praying for all of you!

Emily,
We have been down this road with our adopted son Sam and so my heart goes out to you. Thanks to early intervention, hundreds of hours of therapy and the faithfulness of prayer warriors ... our miracle boy is a perfectly healthy on track toddler today.
We will be praying!

No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Things like this are risks we know of in IA, but it's not where we imagine we end up. What I've found, and I'm sure you have too, though, is when we're standing in the middle of the road...not quite sure how we got there or where we need to go...is when we feel God's presence most.

I will be praying for you as you seek God's wisdom during this time.

Hang in there.

My sweet friend. I just emailed you. What a good and perfect gift Abe is in your life, and what a miracle that God gave you to be his family, to be charged with his care and to love him through all circumstances. We are praying alongside you and so many others who love you. I wish we were closer so I could give you a big hug and have a good cry with you while you walk through this. As always, you are such a light and an encouragement. All our love...

Sister you know we will build a WALL OF PRAYER for your family ... We will shout out Abe's name to the Lord for this journey ... You are a warrior and you will show us all how to have a faith deeper than what we have today by the way you love, parent, accept, and advocate for Abe ... We love you sister and I am never more than a phone call away ...

I am so thankful you have shared this w/ many ... Satan loves to get a stronghold on our minds when we keep things in ... With all of us covering you in prayer and telling Satan TO BACK OFF, it will allow you time w/ the Father w/ out the distraction of the evil one.

I love ya more than words can express ...

Dear Emily,
I have not posted since you were out of the country, but I have continued to enjoy your journey with you. Ever since I read your post, I have been trying to think of what to say that would be comforting or encouraging. Today I opened my devotional, expecting that it may have words that would speak to you more eloquently than I could - and it does! (Which is not really a surprise because God is good that way -) Today's verse is: All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Psalm 42:7
Can't you already tell that this is going to be applicable to this situation - this concern you have about Abe's development?
Then there is a poem - quite long - so I just want to share a couple of verses :
They are HIS billows, whether they go o'er us,
Hiding His face in smothering spray and foam;
Or smooth and sparkling, spread a path before us,
And to our haven bear us safely home.
They are HIS billows, whether we are toiling
Through tempest-driven waves that never cease,
While deep to deep with clamor loud is calling;
Or at His word they hush themselves in peace.
They are HIS billows, and He brings us through them;
So He has promised, so His love will do.
Keeping and leading, guiding and upholding,
To His sure harbor, He will bring us through.
Annie Johnson
The author of the devotional goes on to say:
Stand up in the place where the dear Lord has put you, and there do your best. God gives us trial tests. ... The grandest character is grown in hardship.
I know that you know that there is a purpose to all of our lives - and no matter what the trial, God is with you and can use the situation for His glory. And, let me just say that though I know your heart is troubled, Abe looks as happy as he could possibly be in his new home with his family. He seems to be right where God intends for him to be. I think of you all daily -

Oh, this journey is an amazing road, sometimes incredibly joyful, sometimes massively painful, sometimes just plain fun.

Thanks for sharing this.

Our own newest addition is being transferred to AHOPE while we wait. If you are familiar with AHOPE, you know about our road ahead. If you have any comments about it, please email, though, rather than publicly post, as we are figuring this whole thing out.

God is GOOD.

Praying for your comfort and peace and for a great result for this sweet boy.

Neurologists can be a scary thing. However, they can also be a great comfort.

We have many years of experience w/ an awesome pediatric neuro and he has been one of our great resources and helps. Happy to talk if you need, just email. But all will be well. You would be surprised what God can work through and how blessed are these dark and scary roads! Hang in there. Praying for you all! M
