fretting

"Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil." Psalm 37:8b

I was reading My Utmost for His Highest yesterday and was really convicted! The title was "One of God's Great Don'ts". Ok, that gets your attention right off the bat. I knew that the Lord would work in our lives through the adoption and I knew that waiting would be hard, but the way that Oswald Chambers crafted his words really made me think.

It sounds so easy to talk about "resting in the Lord" and "waiting patiently for Him" until the nest is upset- until we live, as so many are doing, in tumult and anquish, is it possible then to rest in the Lord? If this "don't" does not work there, it will work nowhere. This "don't" must work in days of perplexity as well as in days of peace, or it will never work. .....Resting in the Lord does not depend on external circumstances at all, but on your relationship to God Himself.
Fussing always ends in sin. We imagine that a little anxiety and worry are an indication of how really wise we are; it is much more an indication of how really wicked we are. Fretting springs from a determination to get our own way.

Some days I will read a post on a blog or yahoo group and so and so are talking about this agency or that.....they got their referral in record time, their CIS clearance came in two weeks, etc. and then I start to fret! Did we go with the right agency, did we pick the right homestudy agency, etc?? We prayed over every aspect of this adoption- we felt so confident in our decision with WHFC and our SW and still do but satan is at work and loves to see me fret.
So today, I will not fret! I will trust in the sovereign Lord that He alone knows where my kids are and when they will join our family.

Alexanders! That is amazing. We read the same devotional the other night and it spoke to us, too. We've been having some trouble with our neighbors. It seems that fretting has been something we've been doing more than we'd like to admit. How wonderful to know that others were - literally - on the same page. =)
God bless and much love, Hannah and Tony

It is amazing how God is so wise. I think we all find ourselves fretting over things...and you're right it is satan...he's so tricky! It's good to hear things like that. It's so true though. When life feels crazy or unbearable be thankful for what you have and God will bless you in his time not ours! I know I have to remind myself that every night before I go to bed.....and the next day I do feel so much better! I love God and I'm so glad that he loves me no matter what! I love you guys and I'm so thankful that you love him too!
