strength

Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His Presence continually!! Psalm 105:4

.....for the joy of the Lord is your strength.  Nehemiah 8:10b

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults and with my song I give thanks to Him.  Psalm 28:7

Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:30-31

These verses (and many more) are like cool water to my very sleepy self today.  This break has been incredibly relaxing, but it hasn't been full of sleep.  Abe did so much better last night, but has had many days and nights where he isn't sleeping much.  I think the months of sleep deprivation finally hit as we slowed our pace these 2 weeks.

I unfortunately tried to operate in my own strength and let me tell you, IT ISN'T WORKING. It got me swimming in a sea of self-pity pretty quickly.  How I pray that this new year is filled with the truth of His word and promises it holds.  I'm encouraged this morning as I know that He alone can carry us through our days of questioning and our sleepless nights.  He is good!!

May you be filled with His strength as you begin 2009!

"Hey mom, how can you not be happy to see this in the middle of the night!!!"

Another one that often brings me comfort is "Be still and know that I am God." There is just something about knowing that God is God and I'm not that helps me rest in difficult times. I will continue to pray for you and your family in 2009...and specifically that His grace is sufficient for you and His strength will be made perfect in your weakness. God be with you.

Emily,
I don't believe that I have posted here before but I have followed your story for awhile now. So, I guess I am calling myself out as a "lurker". I cannot tell you how much of an encouragement your family has been to me, and how much I see JESUS shining through in the plan that He has created for your family.

One verse that has been a HUGE source of strength for me is Proverbs 19:21,
"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD'S purpose that prevails."

Our first child was born at 27 weeks weighing 1.5 lbs. (She is now almost 7 and doing great) and this verse taught me so much about God having a different plan for our journey. Our third child is adopted from Guat. and he is 2 and extremely delayed in his expressive language (and slightly in his receptive language). After going through some of this with our bio kids and now with our adopted son, I am convinced that God has chosen us for these specific issues. I won't go into a ton of detail here, as this is getting super long, but I will be praying for you to rest in God's sovereignty. Thanks for being a vessel for Him.

In Christ,
Jenny C.

I am just at home being "a little bit" bored on crutches this weekend. So... if you want me to come over and help occupy anybody/everybody so you can rest give me a call!

When I read this earlier I didn't want to comment because I was in a hurry and wanted to really think about it first.

Strength... that's one that seems to come and go as quickly as the wind sometimes. One minute you have it by the ears and then the next minute your covered in tears and feeling a wee bit lost. Well, I'm not speaking about you, but how strength comes and goes in my life! And it can all happen out of the blue. Sometimes something as simple as a song can reverse the mood.

And we were stupid enough to think that the roller coaster ride would end at referral/travel - HA! What a couple of naive 37 yr. olds!

Still learning sister - this is a ride that never ends, the hills are bigger some times and smaller others. The curves will give us whip lash or they will be soft and smooth and comforting. The ride of life... always moving, always changing.

I think about you everyday! xoxo Lor

Sister, I will pray God showers you in each moment w/ just the strength that is needed ... I so remember last year at this time wondering how I could ever make it ... Maggie was sleeping less than 5 hours a day, tantrums, scratching, slapped me in my face a few times, and I was so broken as a mother ... I hadn't showered in days and the circles were growing ...

It was in those moments that the Lord sent me sisters like you to encourage me ... I remember all the emails and texts you sent at just the right moment that would lift my spirits, make me laugh, and show me the Lord ...

Your are exactly where God wants you my friend ...DEPENDING COMPLETELY ON HIS STRENGTH !!!

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH !!!! We are constantly praying for you all ... know there is never a time day or night that i am not here if you need to talk, cry, or just laugh about our crazy lives !!!!

I have thought of you often as we have seen such poverty here in Uganda. I praise God for your faithfulness in rescuing Abe!

As we visit the children we sponsor, we are happy that they are in a good place where they are loved and taken care of, but we also want to bring every one of them home!

I will continue to pray for your precious boy! And I will continue to praise God for the good work He called you to.

Bless you!

Emily,
I am a good friend of Maura Crawford's and she sent me a link to your blog as well as your slide show of when you got Abe. What an amazing family you have! I have four kids (two sets of twins) with one with CP and I have created a website full of pictures and life with a disability being a large part of it. I would love you to visit me there if you want at www.smallthingsmatter.com. I will return to your blog often! If I can be of some sort of encouragement on your road of life I would be honored! You will not believe the blessings in store for your family! :)

Little Abe, please let mommy sleep.
Sleep deprivation is such torture. I think Lori said it well. This is quite a ride that we are fooled into believing ends when we hold our cild in our arms... not so. Thank goodness we don' have to rely on our own strength. I, for one, would fail. Here is the memory verse that we learned this past week. God will provide for all of your needs according to His glorious riches of Christ Jesus. Phillipians 4:17.... comforting in those times when we need super human strength. I will keep you in my prayers. Sleep well.
