Blog U '08

We are packing our bags and heading out the door tomorrow morning for the First Annual Blog Union!! It is a gathering of families that have a passion for Ethiopian adoption and it is taking place in Hermosa Beach, CA.!! Yahoo.

We can't wait!! This will be our last vacation as a family of 6-- our last hoorah until we get Abe. The blogging community has helped to carry me through the thick and thin of this adoption and I'm thrilled for the opportunity to meet many in person.  Oh, and the sun and the surf sound really enticing too! :)

We get to hang with the Crazy Thorne clan and I finally get to have that glass of wine with my dear friend Laurie! We have only talked about it for almost a year.

Avery gets to see her favorite Ethiopian babe, Silas T.  The one that spurred her on to pray Abe into our home. :)  Good times will be had by all!

A big shout out to Carey for all of her hard work to make this a reality!  I hope you know how much we all appreciate you. :)

To those who can't make it this year (Lori, Tracie, Erica , Julie and Julie to name a few) we will miss you!!!!

a new chain

Remember the chain game? Well, that one didn't turn out as planned........but Avery had the best idea today. She made a new chain to countdown the days until we head out the door for Ethiopia. We leave on August 21st. Apparently with all of the cases being pushed through before the courts close has created a little backlog at the Embassy. So instead of traveling 3 weeks after a successful court date, we leave 4 weeks post court. We will spend 2 days in Dubai and then go get Abe!! We will return on Labor Day (Sept. 1st) We can't wait!!

Abenezer Tesfaye Alexander "Abe"

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name!" Psalm 100:4

getting closer

Both boys are in a week-long baseball tournament, so we are definitely busy.  That has helped me not obsess over the court date that is coming up on Thursday.  The Lord has faithfully given me scripture to ease my mind and remind me that He is King of Kings and the Ultimate Judge over all.

This morning I read "Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.  For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him."  Isaiah 30:18

As we wait for an Ethiopian judge to legally make our little guy an Alexander, I am thankful for a God of justice that is merciful to His own.

7 days

One week.  In 7 days we have our court date.  In 7 days baby A could legally become an Alexander.

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act.  He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.  Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him." Psalm 37: 4-7a

do not worry about tomorrow!

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34

"Do not worry about tomorrow! This is not a suggestion, but a command. I divided time into days and nights, so that you would have manageable portions of life to handle. My grace is sufficient for you, but its sufficiency is for only one day at a time. When you worry about the future, you heap day upon day of troubles onto your flimsy frame. You stagger under this heavy load, which I never intended you to carry.

Throw off this oppressive burden with one quick thrust of trust. Anxious thoughts meander about and crisscross in your brain, but trusting Me brings you directly into My Presence. As you thus affirm your faith, shakles of worry fall off instantly. Enjoy My Presence continually by trusting Me at all times." (from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young)

I was convicted today of trying to figure out all the details- when we will travel, who will travel with us, where we will stay, what route we will take to get there, and this entry put my perspective back in line.  I know that at the perfectly appointed time, we will pass court, travel and finally be united as a family.  We are prayerful that we will pass court the first time on the 24th!!

In another example of God's providence, I got another picture of A yesterday.  He was being fed a bottle by my sweet friend Fifi.  I met Fifi in D.C this past December.  You can read about meeting Fifi here.

Fifi just arrived in Ethiopia to visit her children and made a special trip to go meet, feed and love our sweet babe!  How great is that? Thank you Lord for this sweet gift.
